Shame

15"*22"

Collage

This project is around "shaming" culture in China. The Lotus and the hand represent Chinese Buddhism, the figures are all trapped in some way around the Buddhist symbols. The Buddhist symbols do not necessarily specifically point to Buddhism as a religion, in my mind, Buddhism is so deeply rooted in China's culture that it can be a fraction of Chinese life.

Ikat Weaving

This piece is mainly about color study and ikat study. I was amazed that the simple design of ikat can lead to such powerful results.
Home

25"*24"

MX Dyed Fabric, Found Fabric and Polyfill

In this piece, I played around with distorting the forms of fabric with sewing and filling. I dyed the colors of the fabric and added the forms according to my memories as well as my ideas of home.
Beauty

18"*24", 10.5"*14"

Oil on canvas

Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
For this piece, I randomly selected some common images from various magazines and collaged them together. I love the surprise. I drew inspiration from dadaism and created two works. These two works revolve around people's habitual ideas of beauty. I grew up in a world of pursuing beauty, but I think the concept of beauty is blurred, people spent their whole life trying to get a grasp of the true beauty without knowing what it is. People's understanding of color and beauty are interlinked. They advocate harmonious colors and reject abrupt colors. They are used to traditional things that can be easily reasoned out. These works are about pleasure and randomness, the most important aspect of my creative process is to enjoy what I am doing. I love the unexpected results of what collaging can bring me.

Dimensions I

3.5"*9"*10"

Mix Media
I like to imagine three-dimensions objects have parallel universes on each side. With the green yarn guiding the movement of each figure, the worlds collide to each other making interesting chemistries and stories. I also liked to give found object a new life. I added sound effect to the piece, to encourage interactions and provoke curious like a children's toy.
Dimensions II

6.5"*4.5"*4"

Mix Media

Each side of this "box" is a universe with stories happening, however, every universe has links connect them to the other worlds. This is a piece that I drew my ideas from globalization. Each character is isolated in their own way, but their actions and every thing about them is connected to the other universes.
